Five Elements Meditation
The following is simple adaptation of the Five Elemental Processes.
This meditation is for cleansing and quieting, bringing internal energy and is a wonderful way to start the day. During this meditation, ideally, women should face the North which represents “cold”; this is balanced by woman’s heat. Conversely, men are “cold” and should face South represents “heat” for balance.
Each element is associated with a major (yin) organ, a color and a posture. The posture opens the meridian, allowing energy to flow to the identified organ. To visualize, close your eyes while doing this meditation and imagine your body bathed in/surrounded by the identified color, inhale using deep belly breathing and draw the color into the organ. When exhaling, imagine all the toxins/poisons are being expelled from that organ and the rest of your body. Use a minimum of three deep breathes for each posture. Nine is much better. Once you become familiar with each posture try to perform the meditation with your eyes closed.
ELEMENT #1 WATER / BLUE / KIDNEY: Stand with feet together or slightly apart if necessary to maintain balance. This is the
stance throughout the meditation. Do not lock any joints, stand relaxed and clear
your mind. Extend your arms out from your shoulders, hands with palms up and fingers
slightly opened and cupped.
ELEMENT #2 EARTH/ GOLD/SPLEEN Form a triangle with your index fingers and thumbs. Hold the triangle above your head so
that your head is tiltedbackwards slightly to look up through the triangle (even although
your eyes are closed).
ELEMENT #3 WOOD/GREEN/LIVER Move your palms into a prayerful pose and bring them to center chest about six inches
away from your body.
ELEMENT #4 METAL / WHITE / LUNGS: Keeping palms in the prayerful pose, point the fingers away from your torso, pull them
slightly in towards the chest then push them out about six to eight inches.
ELEMENT #5 FIRE / RED / HEART: Bring palms in towards your torso; spread your hands to create a triangle as previous
described. Move the triangle. Facing down, until it is positioned about three inched
from your Dan Tien, (about three inches below the naval) and about three inches from
your body.
